NEW YORK – The Ford company has announced is it recalling 450 million minivans and SUVs in the United States because of technical problems.
The problem relates to possible loss of power as well as brake related issues.
Included in the recall are 245,000 2001 and 2002 Ford Escapes models and 206,000 2004 and 2005 Ford Freestars and Mercury Monterey minivans.

Ford says that sudden loss of power in the minivans, caused by a defective torque converter, could result in accidents.
The problem with the SUV models is related to the master cylinder brake fuel cap that could leak and fault the wiring in the anti-lock brake system and could cause fire or excessive smoke.
In August 2010 Ford also recalled about 500 million vehicles in the United States for problems related to the rear axle.
Ford stated that repairs of the Escape SUV may be delayed because of a shortage of part but added that it will notify owners when parts are available.
