BERLIN – Deep in the Bavarian forest stands a structure entirely made from snow that draws huge crowds looking for spiritual enlightenment.
A church, located in a rather unusual place and off the beaten track in the ski village of Mitterfirmiansreut, Bavaria, Germany, was built completely using just snow.

The structure is 85.8 feet long, 36.3 feet wide and comes complete with a tower standing 56.1 feet tall. In all it took 49440 cubic feet (1211 tons) of snow to build the church. The shrine can accommodate 190 people.
Already people are gathering at the snow church by the droves. Many are hoping to get married there and others are looking to baptize their new born child in the church.
The church was built first as a wooden structure covered with metal sheeting. Once completed, the structure was then covered with one foot thick snow. The huge entrance to the church are ice blocks fused together by spraying them with water.

The church comes complete with an alter, a cross, light effects and a priest.

As for the people of Mitterfirmiansreut, they are hoping the church will attract many more tourists and give their town a needed economic boosts before spring comes and the church melts away.
