FORT LEE – Don’t try to text while you’re walking or even just strolling in Fort Lee, New Jersey. The ‘violation’ could see you being fined up to $US75.

Since last month already 117 non-suspecting ‘law breakers’ had to dock down $US75 for breaking the ‘no texting while walking’ law.
Fort Lee police says they instigated the law to avoid people losing focus while they are about on the street, sidewalk, shopping center or anywhere else.
Chief of police, Thomas Ripoli, says “People don’t look where they walk.” Already 20 pedestrians slammed into vehicles because of texting while walking.
Fort Lee police intends to distribute flyers throughout the community, making people aware of the new ruling.
If the ‘No Texting While Walking’ initiative in Fort Lee is well received, it may extend into other parts of the United States.
An American research reveals that 60 percent of pedestrians lose their stride and their line of direction when texting while walking compared to those who walk without texting.
