Board members of the U.S. Grand Canyon National Park have elected to disallow visitors from bringing plastic bottles into the park.
The decision comes after an original approval earlier this year was reversed when soda giant Coca Cola intervened.
Coca Cola donates 13 million dollars to the park each year and rebuked the board’s previous decision.
Plastic bottles account for 30 percent of the waste gathered in the park annually.
Nature conservationists started a petition, telling the park to not waver in its decision.
That led to the park eventually approving the order to disallow plastic bottles in the park.
The ordinance is part of the Green Park Plan that goes in effect in 2012.
