BEVERLY HILLS – Ashley Billasano, aka ‘Billy’, spent six hours on Twitter Tuesday sharing her sorrow and pain, writing she’s going to kill herself.
Billy attested on Twitter to being sexually abused when she was just 14 and that now at 18 years old she was going to kill herself.
The teen went in gruesome detail of where she was and what she was doing at the time she took her own life.
For six long hours Ashley spilled her guts on the social site and 500 individuals eagerly stayed glued to what the young woman had to say. Despite her obvious cry for help, not a single person made even the slightest attempt to help her.
Even when Billy began to describe, in detail, how she was committing suicide, no one of the 500 people who were with Billy on Twitter at that time, did anything to stop her; not even calling 911.
It’s as if those individuals got joy from Ashley’s sorrow; almost as if they were ‘daring’ her to go through with suicide. No one of course encouraged Ashley to commit suicide on Twitter but by not responding to the teens plea, it’s as if they did.
500 people went on with their lives after Ashley committed suicide without giving the matter a second thought, without a care, as if this is the most common thing on the planet.
Have we really become this cold-hearted and callous?
It seems that way. 3 weeks ago in China, a 2 yr old toddler is struck and driven over by a truck. She lies in the street fighting for her little life. 18 people pass, not a single person stopped. They rather not help and let the girl die.
In Brooklyn N.Y.; a high-school student is shot in broad daylight in front of a popular Mc Donald’s hangout recently. Not a single person goes to his aid after he’s been shot several times.
Instead, a security camera captures people (mostly young kids) go about their daily lives as if nothing had happened.
Is this the society we have become?
It’s almost as if people get joy from watching someone else die or take their own life. People have become so ‘me’ oriented that in their society extending a helping hand is no longer cool.
Ashley Billasano posted 144 tweets before she killed herself. She had 500 ‘active’ followers hanging on to every word she shared. Not a single follower intervened or gave her words of encouragement.
They rather watched her die!
