BEIJING – Tianmen Mountain, located about 6 miles from downtown Zhangjiajie, China, in the province of Hunan, is one of earth’s most spectacular and scariest experiences you will ever encounter.
The mountain is called ‘Heaven Gate Mountain’ because of a natural hole that is visible thousands of feet above sea level and that can only be reached by taking a treacherous trip.
Whether you chose to ride in a bus along a 5 miles long snake-like winding road build along the edge of the mountain, or prefer to sit in one of the longest free hanging cable car rides in the world, that reaches heights of up to 7,021.5 feet, or decide to walk the newest, glass bottom path suspending some 4,290 feet above ground, getting to Heaven’s gate is a heart pounding experience unlike any other.
The ‘sky walk’ is the latest addition to getting to the base of the hole and allows those brave enough to walk it, to see straight down the rugged, edgy mountain side into the gaping abyss below.

The glass path is so breathtakingly scary, the company that built it has been unable to find anyone to keep the sidewalk clean. Until they do, daredevils are asked to wear cloth slip-ons over their shoes.
Once you reach the base of the hole, you will still have to climb a steep 999 steps to get to the temple that stands on top of the stairs, only feet from the massive hole that Chinese say is ‘the Closest Earth Landmark To God‘.

For the souls brave enough to make it to Heaven’s gate and back, the trip is the most spectacular yet most frightening experience of their lives.
