MOSCOW – About 15,000 Russians flooded the streets of Moscow to protest against Vladimir Putin’s return to power – their jackets and hats adorned with the white ribbons that have become the symbol of the movement.

For nearly a week hundreds have camped out at Chistye Prudy, a boulevard in central Moscow whose name translates as Clean Ponds.

Inspired by the global Occupy movement, but fed by the growing anger at Mr Putin’s return to power, the camp is the clearest sign yet that opposition to Russia’s leader refuses to go away.

Boris Akunin, a novelist and protest organizer, told the crowd: “We have to teach the authorities to deal with their people politely and with respect, not via sticks or the police.”

This is yet one more of the many protests that have been held in various parts of Russia to combat Putin’s re-election as the country’s President for the 3rd time.

Prior to the election a few months ago, protestors already gathered at Moscow’s square demanding Vladimir Putin would not be re-elected.
