Consumer reports announced the recall of 30,000 Nap Nanny recliners following the death of an infant. Nap Nanny, a baby product made to help reduce reflux and gas problems in babies, is said to have been the cause of the death of a 4-month-old girl from Royal Oak Michigan. She was found hanging over the side of the foam recliner, caught between the Nap Nanny and the crib’s bumper.
The commission and the product’s manufacturer, Baby Matters, are aware of other cases in which infants, primarily those under 5 months of age, became trapped in or fell out of one of the recliners.
This is yet another recall so far in the year on products related to infants and kids such as Evenflo, Simmon and Child Craft amongst others.
CPSC recommends that families who own a Nap Nanny stop using the product immediately. Consumers with a second generation Nap Nanny recliner – those with D-rings attached to the foam base and Velcro straps inside the fitted fabric cover – should also stop using the product until they have visited the Baby Matters website to view new product warnings and an instructional video with details on how to properly fasten the harness.
The recalled Nap Nannys were sold at toy and children’s retail stores nationwide and online from January 2009 through July 2010 for about $130.
There are around 22 other cases of babies being stuck, and falling from the side of the Nap Nanny. To learn more about the Nap Nanny recall, go to Cpsc.gov and Napnanny.com.
