New Cancer Drug Could Become Universal Medicine To Fight All Cancers

LONDON – Breast cancer drug could be new miracle drug to eliminate many other cancers.

According to British researchers to breast cancer drug could be the next universal medicine against cancers of all sorts.

“Normal healthy cells have two ways of recovery,” researchers said.

“That’s how it’s possible for those cells to continue to grow and multiply,”

But according to the medical team, the cells in breast tumors only has one way to recover because of a mutation in the BRCA1 gene.

The new drug named ‘PARP – inhibitors’ modifies the way tumor cells can heal themselves by preventing the cells from multiplying, eventually resulting in self death or cell suicide.

The medication attacks inherited forms of breast cancer but has proven to also work positively on tumors in ovaries, prostate and pancreas, all of which have the same BRCA1 gene.

PARP – Inhibitors only kill tumor cells and do not attack or damage good, healthy cells, the researchers say.

That means that patients have far less side-effects from taking PARP – Inhibitors than they do from radiation which does not distinguish between healthy and cancerous cells and damages both.

What makes the medicine universal however is the ability for scientists to modify the medication to block additional or specific tumors without causing damage to healthy cells.

An experiment with the PARP – Inhibitors conducted on mice with lung tumors found that by concentrating on the ‘Cdk1′ molecule, the DNA stopped as well, thus preventing spreading of the tumors.

The result was that the tumor cells shrunk while the healthy cells remained untouched.

It is that discovery, the British research team says, that will eventually lead to developing a universal cancer drug that could be applied to various forms of cancers without severe side effects of nausea or vomiting, but more importantly, without damaging the healthy cells surrounding the cancer tissue.
