The U.S. government has served papers to the Peruvian courts requesting van der Sloot be extradited after he was sentenced for the murder of Stephany Flores in Lima, Peru.
The U.S. alleges that the Dutchman swindled money from Natalee Holloway’s family claiming he would tell the family where their daughter’s body was hidden in Aruba, where she disappeared.
Natalee’s mom claims she paid van der Sloot a portion of the $US30,000 he had requested and says he never kept his end of the deal.
Van der Sloot is presently serving a 28 year sentence in Peru for the murder of Stephany Flores. He may be released 9 years earlier however for time already served and other circumstances.
The van der Sloot trial in the United States is scheduled for 2015. If he is found guilty of swindle and fraud, he could receive an additional 25 years which he will have to begin serving after he completed his Peru sentence.
